GUHSD Supports Women in S.T.E.M.
Grossmont Union High School District maintains a strong focus on equity in Career and Technical Education. To that end, GUHSD is working to engage more women in CTE S.T.E.M. programs such as engineering, computer programming, manufacturing, construction and transportation. GUHSD has initiated a Gender Equity Task Force to investigate causes, effects and potential solutions to the gender equity gap in CTE. As part of that effort, on November 18th, 2021, GUHSD conducted a student focus group with female students enrolled in the Matador Engineering Academy at Mt. Miguel High School. During the focus group, many of the female students pointed out that they had never met a female engineer. In response, GUHSD is hosting a free, webinar for students and families entitled, “Women in S.T.E.M.” The webinar will feature women with successful careers in a variety of S.T.E.M. fields including Biotech, engineering, cybersecurity and construction. GUHSD is committed to helping young women explore careers, develop strengths and reach their full potential.
