Student Background

Chris Cornelio, an AVID student, was once considered at-risk and was doing borderline work when he first enrolled in ROP Dental. He has successfully passed the Hands-On portion of the State Dental Assisting License. He is now able to take the written portion of the exam.

Program Description

Hart’s ROP Dental course is a two-semester class where students learn the basic concepts of dental anatomy, dental procedures, infection control, patient chair-side and laboratory techniques. Students have the opportunity to earn their California State Dental Radiology Certification and certificates in Infection Control and Dental Practice Act.

An articulation agreement with Charter College in Santa Clarita allows students to further their studies after their ROP class by enrolling in a “fast track” Dental Assisting course. Upon completion, students may be eligible to sit for the California State Dental Board written and practical exams to become licensed as a Registered Dental Assistant (RDA).

Outcomes

In addition to completing the practicum portion of the RDA Exam, Chris is employed at a dental office and attending Pasadena City College. At Pasadena City College, Chris is completing the necessary prerequisites to apply for the college’s Dental Hygienist Program.
